5. An intersection (206 kB) [Index] - [<<] - [>>] - [All for June 29th, 2005] - []
In Italy trail markings are either non-existant or very old but on the other hand the trails are very clear and well maintained. The bifurcations, however, are superbly indicated. Only wood is used, in such small posts which are some one metre high. First of all it tells you where you are, then possible ongoing paths and travel times. Nearly in all cases the trail downwards is not indicated; in this three-trail intersection only the two trails going up were posted. The letters are carved in wood and are some 4 milimeters deep; they are painted white. The resulting signposts are very nice looking and seem to be new; the water never reaches the paint so it stays there for a lot of years.
