During that day I've had plenty of luck. Just before the final ascent towards Negoiu peak the sole of one of my shoes broke; I tried to secure it with a tie but it did not work so I teared the pair of trousers which I had on me (in case it was too cold) in two and improvised a kind of bandage over the shoe in order to keep it from disintegrating. It wasn't a very happy solution but was the only one I had.

Immediately after starting the descent from Negoiu Summit I noticed a pair of shoes abandoned by their owner because one of them broke - like mine, the sole broke. But by sheer luck they were my size and again by sheer luck the other one broke! So I got a perfect shoe to replace mine, broken.
