The upper part of the descent took place on a 'mulattiera', an Italian word
which I don't know to translate which means something between a trail
('sentiero') and a road ('strada'). Usually built by the military, a
mulattiera is a small road, about one-meter wide, built of uncemented but
properly laid rocks which allows the passage of small wheeled vehicles like
the cannons; here it is clearly visible on the other side of the valley.
